Nadina's Story

Why we decided to host a Big Aussie Barbie

My father passed away from prostate cancer in 2005, so I thought hosting a Big Aussie Barbie with a group of friends and family would be a great way to raise awareness and funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, but most importantly, a great way to honour and remember Dad the way he was before being diagnosed.

Our Big Aussie Barbie

For our Big Aussie Barbie, my husband and I hosted an afternoon BBQ in our backyard. Thankfully the weather was sensational and the number of family and friends that attended was outstanding! Our event ended up being much bigger than our last Big Aussie Barbie in 2014, so we thought we should make this an annual event and plan to grow our Big Aussie Barbie event every year.

What Big Aussie Barbie means to us

For us, hosting a Big Aussie Barbie is really important because too many men are affected by this disease and it’s a great and way to remind those we care about to visit their doctor and have a chat about prostate cancer.
